It’s a girl! Help us name our baby gibbon
We have celebrated the birth of our first ever baby Siamang gibbon and now we need your help to name the new arrival.
We have celebrated the birth of our first ever baby Siamang gibbon and now we need your help to name the new arrival.
The infant was born in February, and at only two months old, she is still finding her feet as she learns the ropes from Mum, Tunku and Dad, Cian.
Siamang Gibbons are a new species for the zoo, and they are so rare that only a handful of collections in Australasia breed the species. This family of gibbons are part of a critical breeding programme to preserve the species and save them from extinction.
Tunku, 11 and Cian, 6, arrived at National Zoo and Aquarium last year. The pair has settled in brilliantly and it was just a matter of months before Tunku became pregnant.
This is the first baby for both parents.
For such a special arrival, we thought it was only fitting to ask fans of the National Zoo and Aquarium for suggestions. Simply visit our Facebook page to submit your suggestions and if your name is chosen, you can win a stay at the luxurious Jamala Wildlife Lodge!
To enter the competition and submit your chosen name for the Siamang gibbon visit www.facebook.com/canberrazoo
Voting has opened and closes on May 7 at 5pm. The winning name will be announced the following week.
Good Luck!
Ts and Cs apply.
